We recently chatted with Greg Martinc, CNC Lathe Operator with Pharmaworks. Greg joined Pharmaworks in 2016.
What is a day in your life at Pharmaworks like?
My day begins at 5:30 AM each weekday at the Odessa Florida facility. When I arrive at my workstation, I determine the priority of jobs that need to be completed for the day. Some jobs are expedited immediately in order to meet and exceed customer satisfaction. Once these are completed, I prioritize the remainder of my day with orders based on their due dates.
What inspires you to succeed every day?
I started working with my dad in his manufacturing company when I was 14 years old. My dad, John, taught me the work ethics and values that I display today. I saw all the inner-workings of his company working alongside my family. I take as much pride in what I do for ProMach as what I did at my dad’s company.
What is the most meaningful part of your day?
I get satisfaction from making the perfect part! When I receive an expedited job request, I strive to turn the part back to the assemblers. If they have any modifications, I work with the team to ensure it is done precisely, in a timely manner and the customer is happy with the outcome. I work to keep my workstation tidy and organized which allows the “perfect part” process to be seamless.
When do you have the most fun at work?
I have the most fun at work when I am able to witness a final ProMach built machine being tested and all the parts that I manufactured are operating according to the engineering prints that I worked off of. I feel that I am a major contributor to the final ProMach machine that is ready for customer shipment. Success!
Why did you select Pharmaworks/ProMach as opposed to another company?
I selected ProMach because my position directly supported the full manufacturing product line of in-house built machines. Whereas other manufacturing companies are more project based. I felt that ProMach offered me a more stable, career focused opportunity and I jumped at the chance to expand my abilities.
What opportunities or experiences have you most enjoyed?
I enjoy the opportunity to train the apprentices that come through the Trades Program. I show them how the CNC Lathe works; including the set-up, the tooling calibration, and the running of the program/part. Then I give them opportunity to repeat the process and run the system on their own. I watch their sense of accomplishment when they complete the task with success.
If someone new were joining the team what one piece of advice do you think they should know?
I would advise them to be honest with their experience and ability on the machines. We are all on the same team and working toward the goal of putting out the best quality parts as efficiently as possible. Therefore being open to suggestions to improve one’s ability is key for each person and the team.
What is something you’ve learned or your biggest take away during your time at Pharmaworks/ProMach?
My biggest takeaway is learning about a feature on my lathe machine from a co-worker which allows me to program live tool milling without needing sophisticated software, which is an overall savings to ProMach.
What keeps you motivated and coming to work every day?
Honestly, while the paycheck keeps me motivated to come to work each day, it is the sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that I experience in my daily activities and in each and every part I manufacture.
You’ve worked for similar companies before – what are some of the biggest differences you’ve found working for Pharmaworks/ProMach and your prior employers?
The biggest difference with ProMach is that I get to see the final product and its use based on the engineers’ design. At my past employer, I only saw the parts I made and not the final assembly. With ProMach, I feel more of the team atmosphere and that we are all working together!
